In Memoriam: Roger Ebert

Most people will, justifiably, remember Roger Ebert as the greatest film critic who ever lived.  More than an exceptional writer, however, he was an exceptional human being.

He used his fame and in particular, his blog as a place to share his wisdom and generosity of spirit.  To understand what I mean, please read his final post “A Leave of Presence.”

What I’ll remember most of all is his philosophy on life: “I believe emphathy is the most essential quality of a civilization.”
